Hard Out Here is Lily’s first new single for four years and she is clearly taking a swipe at the misogyny within the music industry. Given the recent scandals over Robin Thicke’s dubious lyrics (his hit single Blurred Lines was accused of degrading women and even glorifying rape) and Miley Cyrus’ twerking, it is very timely. There is still huge inequality in the way we view women in the media and these issues need to be addressed.
